WELCOME TO THE GROVE

A tiny army. A thoughtful plan.

Defeat the amber rival keeper before yours falls. Jade tokens belong to you; amber tokens belong to the rival.

  1. Select a creature. Blue dots show reachable hexes. Click one to move. Red rings mark enemies in attack range; click an enemy to attack.
  2. Move and act once per turn, in either order. Your keeper can attack or summon. A Moon moth can attack or heal a different ally for 6.
  3. Summon beside your keeper. Choose a creature card, then a glowing adjacent hex. Summons use essence and wake next turn. You can have six creatures including your keeper.
  4. Hold glowing glades. Gain 3 essence each turn, plus 2 for each occupied glade; maximum 15. The rival gains 2 per turn in the first encounter and 3 in the others.
  5. End your turn when you're ready. Attacks always hit; rocks block movement, but do not block ranged attacks. Range uses hex distance.

Creature badges show current health. A small white dot means an action is ready. Undo also reverses the rival's last turn. At 60 rounds, remaining total health settles the battle.

MADE FOR A LITTLE ESCAPE

Roots & credits

Verdant Pact is a compact, independent adaptation inspired by Ancient Beast by Freezing Moon and contributors. It adapts the deterministic offense/defense damage formula from src/damage.ts, commit f92dafe. Its three encounters, single-hex creatures, essence economy, side turns, local opponent, interface and artwork are new. This is not the full upstream game.

Code is available under AGPL-3.0. Complete preferred-form application source: engine.js, app.js, style.css and index.html. No build step is needed. Source and modification notes.

The forest sanctuary and four creature portraits were generated with a GPT image model, optimized as local WebP files, and integrated into the battlefield, tokens and summoning cards. No upstream artwork is reused.

Free to play. No account, paid model calls, network gameplay or external assets.
